portrait"I have always appreciated the lessons learned from age - I feel that is where true knowledge is found. This view encourages me to paint subjects that I see that have outgrown their usefulness but maintain their dignity and beauty. I try to use color, form, and contrast to bring out these qualities in my subject matter. At the same time I need to feel strongly connected to the subject to express myself to the fullest. I started with oils while in high school, and continued with them until sophomore year in college, where one painting professor insisted everyone in the class learn how to use acrylics. I was hooked.

Searching for subject matter is exciting and frustrating - all of you who express yourselves feel that."
